David Gutiérrez

David Gutiérrez is an Asturian sound engineer, music producer and technology specialist with more than 30 years of experience across music, audio production and creative technology. As Chief Technology Officer at Jimsonweed Studios, he leads the company’s technological strategy and research and development, exploring new systems and workflows at the intersection of sound, image and audiovisual production.

Throughout his career, David has produced numerous bands and worked extensively as a sound engineer, audio technician and electronic music producer. His practice combines a highly developed musical sensibility with a deep understanding of studio systems, technical configuration and emerging technologies, allowing him to approach sound from both a creative and an engineering perspective.

His creative partnership and friendship with Alonso Varela spans more than three decades. David was one of the co-founders of Real Motion Studios, the first studio they established together in Asturias, beginning a long-standing collaboration built around experimentation, technology and audiovisual creation. That shared vision now continues through Jimsonweed Studios on a much larger scale.

Building on his extensive background in music production and audio engineering, David is now expanding his work into sound design for film, episodic content and animation. Working alongside experienced professionals from the screen sound industry, he is bringing his musical, technical and creative expertise into cinematic storytelling while helping to develop the sound department and its production capabilities at Jimsonweed.

His role also extends to research, education and talent development. As the studio’s sound needs grow, David will help shape specialist courses and masterclasses designed to identify and prepare new talent, sharing the knowledge accumulated throughout his career while building the skills required for future productions.

Through Jimsonweed Studios, David and Alonso are continuing a creative and technological vision they have shared for more than 30 years: to build from Asturias a studio where sound, image, storytelling and innovation come together, while creating lasting opportunities for a new generation of audiovisual professionals.
